<p>Vodafone was the first operator in the country to announce reduction in 2G data rates for the Pay as you Go (PAYG) users by 80%, back in June. It rolled out the new rates in select circles such as Karnataka, UP West and Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh as a pilot launch and announced that it would be rolled out in other circles across India in a phased manner. Now the company has announced the new rates would roll out for all pre-paid and post-paid customers on 2G on a ‘Pay as you Go’ basis across its circles in India from November 1, 2013.</p>The charges are down to 2p/10KB from the previous rate of 10p/10KB. Additionally, when a Mobile Internet customer roams anywhere in India on Vodafone, they are charged like home rates for Mobile Internet. Soon after Vodafone’s move to cut 2G data rates, other operators such as Airtel, Idea and Videocon announced similar offers.

Vodafone launched new Special Tariff Vouchers (STV) for its pre-paid and post-paid customers that would let them enjoy free incoming while on national roaming. Airtel announced a similar roaming pack earlier this week and Idea Cellular launched national roaming packs few days back.<br> The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reduced the limit for national roaming tariff for calls and SMS last month that makes free roaming plans for all the operators compulsory.<br> Vodafone offers 2 new national roaming packs that offers free incoming calls while roaming outside the customer’s circle. The Rs. 5 plan is valid for a day that offers free incoming on roaming and the outgoing call charges under this daily plan will be 1.5p/sec.<b> Vodafone pre-paid customers can dial*444*500# to activate this daily plan.</b><br> The monthly plan starting from Rs. 71 offers free incoming calls on roaming for pre-paid customers and costs Rs. 75 for its post-paid customers. These come with 1 month validity. Vodafone says the they have they have reduced local SMS rates decreased by 33%, but no details about the new rate. AIRTEL AND IDEA HIKE CALL TARIFFS

In a blow to consumers , both Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular have increased their call tariff rates by nearly 100 per cent. While Bharti Airtel has doubled the call rates from Re 1 per minute to Rs 2 per minute, Idea has also gone for a steep hike from 1.2 paise per second to 2 paise per second.<br /> <br /> In a written reply to ET Now, Bharti Airtel said that the hike was inevitable and revision in rates is in line with increasing costs. "We have been reiterating that increase in prices is inevitable, which is reflected from the fact that despite rising costs, tariffs have been falling over the past 12 quarters," Bharti Airtel said in a statement.<br /> A source with direct knowledge separately told Reuters that BhartiAirtel is reducing free minutes by up to a quarter and has increased prices of some call vouchers for prepaid customers by Rs 5-15.<br /> The call price increase will be extended to all of 22 telecommunications zones in a phased manner, the source said, declining to be named.<br /> The plan to up call rates has been submitted with the telecom regulator TRAI. With an aim to protect consumer interests, TRAI may intervene in the call rate hike decision.<br /> Earlier this month, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone hiked tariffs for 2G data services . Airtel revised its 1GB 2G data plan from Rs 100 to Rs 125.<br /> "This nominal price revision is subject to rate elasticity, customerdemand and supporting cost structures. Our recent revision...is an increase of only 2-3 paise per MB. It continues to be an excellentvalue proposition for our customers," an Airtel spokesperson had said.<br /> Vodafone too has made similar changes in the monthly plans and has reduced data limits available under various prepaid plans.<br /> While the Rs 95 plan (28 days validity) is now available for Rs 124, others plans allowing 250 MB data usage and 150 MB usage have been reduced to 150 MB and100MB, respectively.
