FACEBOOK TO LOSE 80 PERCENT USERS BY 2017

</div>A recent study by researchers at Princeton University has revealed that Facebook is likely to lose 80 percent of its users between 2015 to 2017. Researchers found that from a study of charts produced by the Google Trends service which shows Facebook searches peaked in December 2012, but have been declining since then. 
The study conducted by John Cannarella and Joshua Spechler was modeled after the mathematical adoption rates of communicable diseases, which typically peak before declining.The researchers then compared the growth curve of other online social networking sites with Facebook. According to the report Facebook which turns 10 in February has survived far longer than its rivals, like MySpace and Bebo. The report added that users begin to loose interest in any service after a few years. 
The report added, that there has been a decrease in the social networking sites daily users, driven by teenagers deserting the site. According to a recent report teenagers are leaving the social networking site in Favour of messaging services like Twitter, Snapchat etc.

version 2.2.1. Even though this is 
a minor update to fix some bugs, 
this update adds new feature

MORE THAN 60 LAKHS FACEBOOK ACCOUNTS HACKED

A massive spam attack has hit Facebook, causing significant problems for the social networking site. Facebook accounts are being flooded with graphic images of violence and pornography. According to reports, more than two lakhs Facebook accounts from Bangalore have been attacked. A number of users have complained that their profile pictures have been put on porn sites. Globally, more than 60 lakh Facebook accounts have been reportedly hacked since Sunday night. The virus, rapidly spreading across the social network, has flooded accounts with gruesome images of hardcore porn and violence. Facebook has also acknowledged the presence of the virus and is presently investigating the matter. The Christian Post, which first reported about the virus, says the virus and spam attacks could be the work of notorious hackers group Anonymous. The hackers group had previously pledged of launching attack on the social networking site. Meanwhile, Facebook released a statement, accepting the existence of the virus. It said, “Protecting the people who use Facebook from spam and malicious content is a top priority for us, and we are always working to improve our systems to isolate and remove material that violates our terms. Recently, we experienced a coordinated spam attack that exploited a browser vulnerability. Our efforts have drastically limited the damage caused by this attack, and we are now in the process of investigating to identify those responsible." Facebook is expected to soon released a set of guidelines for users, whose accounts had been hacked or wanted to secure their accounts. The official Facebook security blog page says, "Security and safety are at the core of Facebook. We have entire teams dedicated to building tools that give people even more control over their account, and specifically the way they access their information. In fact, many of our most talented engineers are working exclusively on creating a secure environment on Facebook." The privacy breach is certainly a serious jolt to Facebook, which claims of having more than 750 million users. Facebook has previously said that it has been consistently attacked by spammers and hackers. However, the social networking site should do more to prevent such attacks in order to sustain its popularity.

Facebook expects India will soon surpass the US and Indonesia to become its largest market in terms of users. "India is our third largest market in terms of number of users and what we're excited about and why we're here is because some time in the future, we think that India will pass first Indonesia, which should happen soon, and then US," says Facebook's vice president for mobile partnerships and corporate development Vaughan Smith. India has nearly 30 million Facebook users, while Indonesia has more than 45 million users. According to reports, more than three-fourth of all Facebook users are outside the US. The figures released by ComScore in June revealed that the number of Facebook users in India was growing at a phenomenal pace. According to the data, one out of three Internet users in India was a Facebook user. Moreover, the Indian companies from various sectors including retail and hospitality are harnessing Facebook to reach out to their audience and promote their businesses. Smith highlights that more than half of Facebook users in India access the social network via their mobile devices. With number of Internet users in India expected to touch 121 million by year end, Facebook's prospects look better in the country. According to the annual I- Cube report jointly published by IMRB and the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IMAI), India is likely to surpass the US, which has some 245 million Internet users, within two years.

FACEBOOK BRINGS FOLLOW OPTION WITH SUBSCRIBE BUTTON

Facebook has launched a Subscribe button, which 
allows users to follow the public updates of others, 
without necessarily having to be approved friends. 
Facebook says the new button gives more control to 
users on their news feed and accounts. 
The Subscribe button helps connect you with 
"interesting people you're not friends with—like 
journalists, artists and political figures," Blake Ross, 
director of product at Facebook, wrote in a blog post. 
To start using this feature all you need to do is click on 
“subscribe” button available on someone's profile page. 
It is notable that you will not be “friends” with that 
person and you will be only able to see their updates 
that are for public view. 
"Just like with friends, you can choose how many and 
what types of updates you see after you've 
subscribed," adds Ross. To add the Subscribe button, 
go to the subscription page and click on "Allow 
Subscribers." 
Facebook users also have option to decide who can 
comment and what notifications they receive after 
allowing subscribers. The Subscriber tab will be 
available on your profile, through which can find out 
who subscribes to you. Facebook has already started 
rolling out the Subscribe feature and will be available 
to all users in coming days. 
Facebook's new feature is apparently similar to 
Twitter, which allows users to follow others, including 
those whom they do not know and see their public 
posts in a timeline. The new Facebook button gives 
same power to Facebook users. 
Soon after the launch of Google+, Facebook has 
made some significant improvements in its site. It 
recently announced some new features to streamline 
grouping of friends and improve privacy settings. Prior 
to these, Facebook rolled out video chat feature, 
which it did not possess when Google+ launched with
