TRAI DIRECTS OPERATORS TO INFORM USERS ABOUT SERVICE TERMINATION

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed the telecom operators who had lost their licences to inform subscribers
within 10 days about service discontinuation in circles where they
didn't win spectrum. The licences of Videocon Telecommunications,
Unitech Wireless (Uninor), Sistema Shyam Teleservices (MTS) and Tata
Teleservices are expiring on January 18, 2013.
The termination of services will impact about 2.6 crore subscribers of these telecom operators. So far, only Tata Teleservices and Uninor have informed users about service termination. Tata informed its users Assam, North East and Jammu and Kashmir that its services shall stand
terminated from mid-night of January 18, 2013.
Uninor recently informed its users about service termination in West
Bengal and Kolkata circles and stopped sales of new SIMs and recharge.
Uninor also asked users to shift to other network.
