AAKASH 2 LAUNCHED IN INDIA

 on Sunday, November 11, 2012

DataWind in joint
collaboration with the HRD
Ministry has launched the
Aakash 2 low cost Android
tablet in India for Rs 1,132.
This is a special subsidized
price only meant for
students. It is based on
DataWind's UbiSlate 7Ci.
With the Aakash 2, DataWind
is taking a solid step forward
from the original Aakash,
which was panned
universally for its poor user
experience. From the original
366MHz processor, now the
Aakash 2 a 1GHz processor
built on the ARM Cortex A8
architecture. The previous
model used a resistive panel,
but the Aakash 2 adds a 7-
inch capacitive display with
four multi-touch points and a
decent resolution of
800×480 pixels.
Apart from this the innards
of the tablet include 512MB
or RAM and 4GB of internal
memory, which can also be
expanded via the microSD
card slot. Besides this unlike
the Aakash, which ran
Android 2.2, it runs Android
4.0. It also has a front facing
VGA camera for video chats,
and it has built in Wi-Fi
connectivity.
Hardware enhancements
apart it also comes
preloaded with Amrita
University's e-Learning
platform A-VIEW – Amrita
Virtual Interactive E-Learning
World. Amrita University has
developed the mobile version
of A-VIEW especially for the
Aakash 2.
The commercial version of
the Aakash 2, the Ubislate 7Ci
is already available for pre-
order via DataWind's site for
Rs 4,499.
